Principal's Message

It is with great pride and excitement that I write this letter to you as the Principal of Greater Johnstown High School.   I am honored to have the opportunity to lead a school with such a rich tradition both in and out of the classroom. 

Our commitment at Johnstown High school is to provide a challenging educational program for all students within a safe, nurturing environment. Students and staff will focus on top-notch Academics, school and community Safety, and school-wide Discipline with a restorative approach.

It is with pride that we hold these high standards and ask each of our students to commit to maintaining the extraordinary record of achievement and contribution that has been the legacy of the Greater Johnstown School District.  It is the contribution of our students to our school and community that makes Greater Johnstown an exceptional learning community. 

Johnstown is proud to support numerous challenging academic courses, an outstanding extracurricular program, second-to-none visual and performing arts programs and various school clubs for students.  We encourage you to experience our school culture, one that is focused on providing students with the academic and social resources that will prepare them to achieve their post-secondary goals.

At Greater Johnstown we believe that it is important for our students to be connected to school through positive relationships and a strong sense of community.  I believe that every student can learn and be successful if provided the right support and opportunities.  Our teachers and staff are committed to providing all students with an appropriate and challenging educational experience in a respectful environment that fosters learning and growth.

Our staff focus this year will be on Operations, Communication and Teamwork. 

Teamwork

As demands of teaching children increase, it becomes more evident that we all need to work together to ensure that our children reach their fullest potential. I believe that all of us- the school and the community- must work together as an extended family to insure success for all our students. It’s our responsibility to empower children with the creative, intellectual, and decision-making skills necessary for them to become academically, socially, physically, and emotionally successful. 

A crucial part of success for students is attendance.  As a parent or guardian it is essential for you to maintain an attitude that “Every Day Counts” for students to be in school and ready to learn each day.  At Greater Johnstown, we will assist in helping parents and families understand the importance of instructional time and school attendance.  Additionally at Greater Johnstown , we recognize that family and community support are integral to our success.  This is why we encourage you to join us as a volunteer through our Boosters, PTA, or other avenues. Parents/Guardians play the most important roles in a student's success and I invite you to collaborate with us in your students' education.

Operations

When we take the time to strategically plan, forge positive relationships, celebrate our achievements, and continue to build on our successful foundation, we can foster a learning environment where our entire Johnstown community thrives.  

Communication 

One of our most important responsibilities to you is that we keep you informed of all that is taking place at the school. One of the ways we do this is regularly updating our school website.  We also use Schoology and social media to keep the lines of communication open
